Movie in the Park: Hoodwinked Too!

On Friday, August 3rd, Councilmember Wesson, his  staff, and SORO NC bring the family-friendly animated film Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil to our own Reynier Park (2803 Reynier Ave.). Bring your family and friends for a beautiful night of movie-watching under the stars.

Released just last summer, Hoodwinked Too! (a sequel to 2006's Hoodwinked!) finds Red Riding Hood training with the mysterious Sister Hoods. But soon she and the Wolf are called upon to investigate the disappearance of Hansel and Gretel—and to come face to face with the evil witch Verushka. The great cast includes Glenn Close, Hayden Panettiere, Amy Poehler, Patrick Warburton, Cheech & Chong, and Joan Cusak.

Best part: it's free. All of it. Including the movie, hot dogs, candy, popcorn and a special raffle for the kids. (We do recommend bringing a blanket for the ground.) Festivities begin at 7pm and we'll start the movie as soon as it's dark enough.

2012 Susan Bursk Community Service Award Nominations

Seeking your nominations for this  year's winner

Nominations due Friday May 11, 2012 by 5pm

Every year the community service non-profit SoRo Inc. and South Robertson Neighborhoods Council (SORO NC) partner to present a community service leadership award to a South Robertson stakeholder who has made outstanding contributions to the community.

We are trying hard to broaden our reach and capture unsung heroes in the community that we may not typically know about.  We are looking to recognize people who do good works in SORO whether or not they hold official "leadership" positions. Your neighbor, friend, colleague—even someone you've admired from afar—could be the recipient this year.

Please help us recognize our neighbors, educators, students, volunteers, business owners, employees, faith and organizational representatives and others who's extraordinary efforts broadly benefit the SORO community. Is there an unsung hero making a difference in your community that deserves recognition? Let us know!

Submission instructions are on the form, which is available for download in either MS Word or PDF format.

Event starts promptly

The March 8th election for the City's Council District 10 seat is just around the corner.

Neighborhood leaders have organized an informal meet and greet session for the candidates on Thursday, February 17 from 6:30-7:30pm. It'll be held in the Hamilton High School Cafeteria. Each of the 6 candidates will have 5 minutes to present, then during the last half hour they'll take brief questions from the audience. While it'll be informal, the event will start promptly at 6:30 and end at 7:30.

Download the flyer for more information, or register to vote online.

Update: Neighbors United will also be hosting their own candidates forum on Monday, February 14 from 7-8pm. It will be held at the Claude Pepper Senior Center (map).
