Hamilton High Incidents

The press is reporting that two youths (not Hamilton students) were detained yesterday trespassing at Hamilton High. They were taken to the West LA police station by School Police after refusing to cooperate.
Threatening messages, warning of violence on 4/24 (today), were also found in the boy's bathroom, although it is not clear whether they were linked to the trespassing incident. The school administration has beefed up security and is actively working with LAPD on their investigation. A reward has been offered for information resulting in a conviction.
Hamilton administration acted promptly, the school remains open, and classes are proceeding as usual.
You can find more details at the links below; we'll keep you updated as more information becomes available.

2008 Community Town Hall Meeting: Living Green

Each year, SORO NC hosts a Town Hall where our stakeholders have the opportunity to speak directly with city officials. With the recent election campaigns so focused on energy dependence, climate crisis and the economy, we decided it would be appropriate to focus our 2008 Town Hall on LIVING GREEN.

UPDATE: Although the Town Hall has already happened, we have compiled resources here on our website that hopefully will help you Live Green. Together, our communities can build a greener future.

2008 SORO Award Winners: Michele Wytko and SLO Rashad Sharif

The newly-renamed Susan Bursk Founder's Award is presented each year to an individual in recognition of his or her dedication and service to the South Robertson Neighborhoods community. The award is presented by SoRo Inc. and SORO NC at the SORO Festival.

This year's winner was community activist Michele Wytko for her tireless efforts to improve her La Cienega Heights neighborhood.

A special Service Award was also presented to Senior Lead Officer Rashad Sharif for his work in La Cienega Heights and in helping to establish the Robertson Activities League anti-gang program.

We're deeply grateful for the work Michele and SLO Sharif have done within SORO, and congratulate them on their awards.

Introducing SORO Walks at 7

Starting this summer, SORO NC invites you to join the neighborhood as we launch SORO Walks at 7.

This isn't a one-time event: every evening at 7pm, neighbors and residents are encouraged to get out and walk. Take advantage of the beautiful weather, meet new friends and spend time with old ones. SORO Walks at 7 is the perfect chance to get the exercise we all need, spend quality time with those you love and enjoy our beautiful neighborhood.

Together we can build a stronger, safer, healthier and more connected community. One walk at a time.

2007 Founder's Award Winner: Susan Bursk

2007 marks the 10th annual SoRo Festival. To celebrate the occasion, the SORO Founder's Award has been created to recognize an individual's dedication and service to the South Robertson Neighborhoods community. The award will be presented by SoRo Inc. and SORO NC at the June SORO Festival.

This year's inaugural winner is Susan Bursk, who played an instrumental role in the creation of SORO NC and the SoRo Festival itself.

We're deeply grateful for the work Susan's done within SORO, and congratulate her on the award.
